About Mags
Hello, I'm Mags, a wildlife and nature illustrator from County Durham, inspired by the beauty of the British countryside and the wildlife I encounter on my daily walks.
I work primarily in coloured pencil and graphite, creating detailed illustrations of animals, flowers and woodland scenes that celebrate the charm of the natural world.
My artistic journey began during a long illness, when my husband brought home a collection of drawing books and art supplies to help pass the time. What started as a simple distraction soon became a source of comfort, creativity and healing.
As I sat sketching flowers from my bed, I discovered a passion that had been quietly waiting for years. Drawing became a way to connect with the world around me and express what words often could not.
Over the years, my creative path took many turns, but I always found myself returning to my sketchbook. In 2019, a vivid dream reminded me of what I truly loved, and from that day I began drawing animals and recording my countryside walks in journals alongside our beloved little dog, Finlay.
Those walks became a constant source of inspiration, encouraging me to look more closely at the wildlife, plants and changing seasons around me.
Today, my illustrations are inspired by the British countryside and the timeless work of Beatrix Potter. I strive to capture the character, beauty and gentle spirit of the animals and landscapes I love.
My original artwork is transformed into greeting cards, journals, notebooks, bookmarks, writing sets and stationery designed for fellow nature lovers.
Although Finlay is no longer by my side, the countryside remains at the heart of my creative process. Every drawing begins with a love of wildlife and a desire to bring a little of nature into everyday life.
I'm also incredibly grateful to my husband, whose encouragement first led me back to art and who remains my biggest supporter today.
Thank you for visiting PencilArtbyMags and supporting independent artists.
